What AI Off Switch does
AI Off Switch helps you control AI-related webpage interfaces and optional text signals on websites you allow. Hiding changes the page you see. It does not disable a website’s backend AI processing or change that website’s privacy settings.
Webpage information processed on your device
On permitted websites, the extension reads the page structure and relevant labels to find recognised AI interfaces and apply your confirmed manual hiding rules. It reads the current page URL and domain locally to choose website filters and controls. It does not access Chrome’s history database or build a chronological browsing-history log.
If you enable text signals, eligible readable English passages are sampled and sent through internal extension messages to a classifier running locally in your browser. Page text and classification results are not sent to the publisher or a remote analysis service. Text and results are held temporarily in memory while processing the page and are cleared when analysis is disabled or the page closes. They are not written into the extension’s persistent settings.
The classifier can make mistakes. A label is an experimental estimate about a sample, not proof of authorship or a judgement of quality. Unlabelled text is not verified human writing.
Sensitive content and private workspaces
Typed drafts, form controls, editable regions, code, hidden content and embedded frames are excluded from text analysis. Recognised mail/private workspaces require an additional explicit opt-in for text analysis. If you opt in, eligible displayed messages and other readable page content may contain personal communications or other sensitive information; processing remains local. The extension does not use login, password or authentication-cookie APIs, and does not require an account.
What is saved locally
Chrome local extension storage holds feature preferences, website hostnames and exceptions, pause expiry times, and the CSS selectors of elements you explicitly confirm hiding. A selector may include an element identifier or accessible label from the chosen page. These settings are used to apply your choices and are not synchronised by the extension or uploaded to us. They remain until changed, removed or cleared by uninstalling the extension.
Downloaded model assets are kept in the extension’s local IndexedDB. They contain model weights and tokenizer data, not your browsing text. You can remove downloaded model data in Settings. In the complete package, bundled model files remain part of the installed extension.
Network connections and third parties
The complete extension includes the model, JavaScript runtime and WebAssembly files needed for local analysis. It does not require a model download for normal use. If you explicitly choose the model-download action in Settings, fixed model and tokenizer files are fetched over HTTPS from Hugging Face and its file-hosting services. The extension checks their integrity before use. It does not include webpage text in these requests, and requests omit credentials and referrer. The hosting services can receive your IP address and normal request metadata necessary to deliver the files; their own privacy practices apply.
The extension has no advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, remote text-inference service or publisher-operated data-upload endpoint. Your browser, websites you visit, Chrome Web Store and any website hosting this policy make their own normal connections and are governed by their respective privacy practices. This policy page contains no analytics or external scripts; its hosting provider may receive normal connection metadata.
Reports and support messages
If you create an issue report, the extension downloads a JSON file containing the extension version, a website hostname, an issue category and the description you enter. It does not automatically attach page text, account identifiers or search queries, and it does not submit the report. Your description can contain any information you choose to include. Downloaded reports stay in your Downloads until you remove them; uninstalling the extension does not remove files you exported.
If you separately email the publisher or choose to share a report, the publisher receives the information you send and uses it to respond to your request and resolve the reported issue. Email delivery is handled by the email services used by you and the publisher. Do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive material. Contact the publisher to request deletion of support correspondence; information may need to be retained where required to resolve an issue or meet applicable obligations.
Limited use
AI Off Switch uses information accessed from websites only to provide its disclosed webpage controls and local text-signal features, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements. It does not sell browsing information, use it for advertising or unrelated profiling, or use it to determine creditworthiness. The publisher has no access to locally processed page text unless you choose to send specific information in a support request.
Your controls
You can disable either feature for a website, pause the extension, revoke website access, remove saved manual selectors, remove downloaded model assets, or uninstall the extension. Revoking website access restores elements hidden by the extension and stops further analysis there; it does not erase your saved preferences for that website. Uninstalling clears the extension’s local storage. You control any reports you exported and any messages you chose to send separately.
Changes and contact
We will update this policy when the extension’s data handling changes. For questions or privacy requests, contact Ahsan.ai.builder@gmail.com.
